An Introduction to Science

At Wolgarston, we spend the first half-term completing your KS3 science studies, looking at topics identified by your middle school science teachers.

After the half-term break, we begin to study the fundamental, vitally important principles of each of the science subjects by focusing on the content of GCSE topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

All Y9 students study the same topics at the same level, and at the end of Y9, take the same test.

So what are the fundamental topics, and what can you do to prepare for studying at Wolgarston and get a head-start? For the following topics, follow the links to look at the relevant section of BBC Bitesize, and also look at an excellent resource called Freesciencelessons.

Biology - Cell Biology:

Chemistry - Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table:

Physics - Particle Model of Matter:

That should keep you busy and interested during the holiday. If you like a challenge, try doing the GCSE questions we've uploaded into this folder. They're not tests, and you can tell this because we've included the answers!

We've also uploaded the knowledge organisers for the topics - these are like very brief revision guides.

If you'd like even more work to do (wow - fantastic!), then the other three topics for Y9 are: Biology - Organisation; Chemistry - Bonding, structure and the properties of matter; Physics - Energy. You could find the relevant BBC Bitesize pages for yourself and look for the relevant Freesciencelessons pages (and other resources - there are loads!)

Have fun, and see you soon!
