Relaxations
The power of relaxation and deep breathing is often underestimated. There are many guided relaxations and relaxing music you can access on Youtube. It is important to find the right one for you so have a listen to different examples and find the one that you can connect with the best.
Aim to practice relaxation everyday for at least 10 minutes.
Progressive muscle relaxation works by tensing and relaxing different muscles in your body. Attached is a script which you can ask someone to read to you.
Guided imagery is a technique which gets you to picture an object or a place. with practice the aim is to imagine this in times of difficulty and 'take yourself there'
You can adapt and change these scripts to suit your needs.
The Headspace app is also a great resource out there with free sessions- you can choose different lengths of time to practice. Headspace aims to get you to take timeout from your thoughts and feelings.Take 10 minutes every day to listen to this guided relaxation. We often underestimate the power of deep breathing and taking time out of the day to help us with our mood. The more we practice this the better the body will be at resetting itself from a heightened 'stress' response.
According to a marketing study conducted by Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, the most relaxing song in the world is Weightless, by ambient band Marconi Union. The song was produced by the band in collaboration with the British Academy of Sound Therapy.
The song's carefully arranged harmonies, rhythms, and bass lines help slow a listener's heart rate, reduce blood pressure and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
The track may sound unusual and not something you'd be used to hearing but stick with it!
